Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, announced the opening of a dialogue with the sovereign council in Sudan, to discuss the country’s crisis and the return of Sudan to the Union Commission, and condemned foreign interventions in Sudan and said that the solution must be Africa.

He stressed that the Union continues to make extensive diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability throughout the continent, through dialogue, political initiatives, and regional and international cooperation.

In a press release on the activities of the Federation during the past five months, Youssef explained that the continental establishment focuses on settling disputes through dialogue, pointing to ongoing consultations with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, and the union mission deployed in the country, to ensure security and peace in Somalia.

The statement also indicated the visit of the African Union delegation to the city of Juba in southern Sudan, as part of efforts to calm tensions between President Salva Kiir and his deputy Rick Machar, and to urge the two parties to implement the previously signed bilateral agreements.

Regarding the situation in Sudan, the Federation affirmed that it is continuing its efforts to reduce the repercussions of the crisis on civilians, and work to settle a political settlement.

In the file of the conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the activities of the M23, the Federation made it clear that it had conducted consultations with the leaders of the two countries with the aim of reducing tension and enhancing stability in the region.

The President of the Commission pointed out that the efforts of the Federation are not limited to security initiatives only, but also extend to cooperation with regional organizations such as “Igad”, “Sadak”, “Ecasas” and “Comesa”, to support development plans and enhance regional stability.

Youssef also stressed that the federation is working to enhance its partnerships with international institutions to support these efforts, noting that international cooperation will be one of the pillars of the next stage.
