The attack on Cooper – Al -Zawiya Net

Media sources revealed serious developments related to the attack by Cooper Prison in Nyala, South Darfur, on June 22, which was carried out by a force of the Rapid Support Forces with the aim of releasing one of its detainees on charges of a murder.

According to a report of the “Darfur 24” website, the attack resulted in the death of 26 people, including 12 inmates, 6 attackers, and 8 rapid support elements assigned to the prison guard, including two officers, one of whom is the director of the pioneering prison, Omar Ibrahim.

The storming resulted in the flight of approximately 800 inmates, including those arrested in sensitive issues related to “intelligence” and “cooperation with the army”, which raises great security concerns in light of the escalation of armed confrontations in the region.

The attack is one of the most dangerous security incidents in South Darfur since the outbreak of the conflict, and reflects the degree of security deterioration and the transformation of sovereign facilities into direct targets of the conflict.
