Understanding between Egypt and Britain on Sudan

Ambassador Abu Bakr Hefni Mahmoud, Deputy Foreign Minister in Egypt, with Ambassador Harriet Matthews, Director General of Africa, UK and British regions, discussed regional and international efforts to bring peace to Sudan.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting is certain on the unity and integrity of the lands of Sudan and rejecting any attempts or efforts to harm them.

The two sides stressed the importance of launching a comprehensive political process with Sudanese ownership and without external dictates, which leads to a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people in peace, stability and development.

She noted that the guarantee of humanitarian aid has been emphasized and the preservation of civilian lives, in addition to supporting Sudanese legitimate institutions and the state’s infrastructure.

The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed Egypt’s steadfast and supportive position of Sudan and its national institutions, stressing the importance of working with all partners to help Sudan get out of its ordeal.

For its part, Ambassador Matthews welcomed the role that Egypt plays in supporting stability in the region, and expressed the UK aspiring to continue cooperation with Cairo to advance the peaceful settlement efforts.
