An Emirati plane landing Port Sudan Airport .. What is going on?

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The leader of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Mohamed Diauddin, revealed an article entitled “The legal confrontation with the Emirates and the fingers of the accusation”, in which the reception of Port Sudan airport received a huge Emirati cargo plane loaded with medical aid, just days before the first session of the International Court of Justice on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Diauddin said in his article:

In an escalatory move that expresses a qualitative development in the tools of confrontation, the de facto government in Port Sudan filed a lawsuit against the UAE government, before the International Court of Justice, accusing it of supporting the Rapid Support Forces, which the lawsuit holds responsible for committing severe crimes against civilians in the Darfur region. However, this move, despite its legal nature, cannot be separated from the general context of the war that enters its third year, which has not resulted in a military resolution, prompting the Port Sudan government to adopt legal and diplomatic tools parallel to the field confrontation.

Despite the symbolism of this step, it faces real challenges, the court decisions lack the weakness of the implementation mechanism, as the rulings issued by the Security Council are referred, where legal considerations overlap with the balance of international powers, especially with some permanent members of the veto. In addition, the course of litigation passes through multiple procedural stages, starting with the request of temporary measures, and then looking at the jurisdiction of the court, before going into the subject of the lawsuit, which makes the path long and complex, may extend for years, and thus reflects a diplomatic bet on the factor of time, more than a serious endeavor to achieve justice.

This impression is reinforced by the lawsuit to prevent the 1948 genocide to prevent genocide, in exchange for an Emirati response with a legal appeal based on previous reservations about some of the terms of the agreement, which adds more complicate to the legal and procedural path.

However, the question is the clear contradiction in the position of the Port Sudan government on international justice, as it refuses to cooperate with the International Criminal Court, and the cases that deal with or freeze are seized according to the requirements of the circumstance, which weakens the credibility of this legal trend, and makes it closer to a temporary tactic that does not reflect a preliminary commitment to the concepts of international justice, especially in light of the continued refusal of the government to hand over the wanted persons to the International Criminal Court until now.

Despite the political and legal escalation and the exchange of accusations, communication between the two parties is made at all levels of diplomatic, security and commercial relations.

Several indicators indicate that the goal of the lawsuit is not to end the war, but rather to enhance the legitimacy of the internationally government of Port Sudan, and enhance the hypothesis of the use of the legal issue as a negotiating card that employ international platforms as pressure papers in the policy intersection game.

Therefore, this lawsuit does not appear to be a pure legal nature, but rather is part of a broader political maneuver, in which laws overlap with the political geography of the regional conflict, in the context of a conflict that has not been clear, the features of its end.
