December 12, 2024 (KHARTOUM BAHRI) – The Sudanese army and allied forces seized control of the al-Samrab district north of Khartoum Bahri on Thursday after clashes with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Fierce fighting raged between the army and the RSF north of Khartoum Bahri since Thursday morning, involving infantry, heavy artillery, and the army’s air force.

Soldiers and allied militia released videos claiming they had captured the “al-Listik” station in al-Samrab.

Military sources told Sudan Tribune that the army has now fully secured al-Samrab, following an earlier operation last month in which they advanced into the area bordering RSF positions east of the Nile.

These sources added that securing al-Samrab will allow the army to push south towards the Shambat district and eventually into the old neighbourhoods of Khartoum Bahri.

Since late September, the army has been positioned in al-Halfaya, north of Khartoum Bahri, and is attempting to link up with the Signal Corps forces in the south of the city and reach the army’s general command headquarters in central Khartoum.

Eyewitnesses reported that the army used drones and warplanes to pursue the retreating RSF forces from al-Samrab to the Kafouri district to the east.

Fighting in White Nile state

Meanwhile, in the White Nile state in southern Sudan, clashes also erupted between the army and the RSF, who are trying to advance south from their strongholds in al-Qatina towards the city of Ad Douiem.

Local sources told Sudan Tribune that the RSF attacked al-Aawaj, north of Ad Douiem, where army forces are stationed, with infantry on combat vehicles and heavy artillery shelling.

The army repelled the RSF attacks, and the air force launched airstrikes on RSF gatherings on the outskirts of Ad Douiem on the west bank of the White Nile River, where a bridge connects the two banks.

The army’s 18th Infantry Division in White Nile state has deployed military reinforcements to secure the Ad Douiem bridge.
