Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The Joint National Committee between the Missiriya and Dinka Naquk tribes declared the military presence of the Rapid Support militia in the Al-Naam Market area, 15 km north of Abyei, on the border between Sudan and southern Sudan. The National Committee represents a joint supervisory administration of civil components, which is entrusted with the disputed region affairs management between Sudan and the state of South Sudan, as well as the United Nations Interim Force responsible for maintaining security in Abyei (UNICF), within the framework of security arrangements aimed at keeping the demilitarized zone until the conflict is settled on the subordination of Abyei.

Local sources revealed previous attempts by the militia to impose its control on the vital ostrich market, which represents a human crossing for the displaced people fleeing the fighting areas towards South Sudan, as well as securing food supplies and fuel for western Sudan.

The sources indicated a visit that the head of the so -called civil administration in the West Kordofan state to the region last May, which the National Committee considered an attempt to destabilize the civil balance management in the market.

Martha Bobby, Assistant Secretary -General of the United Nations for Africa, had stated in a briefing before the Security Council on June 27, that the growth of rapid support in the Abyei region contributes to the complexity of the security situation, which is originally described as fragile.

UN reports stated that the increasing spread of the security forces of southern Sudan and the elements of the Janjaweed inside Abyei constitutes a clear violation of the 2011 administrative arrangements agreement between Khartoum and Juba, which requires an urgent review of the military deployment in an area that is supposed to be demilitarized.
