📝 Details:

The United Nations directed what it described as “disturbing levels” of sexual violence in the devastating Sudan conflict, and said the list of the Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations in Sudan, Christine Hambrok, that reports on rape, sexual enslavement and kidnapping of women and girls are still reversed at a horrific rate.

She pointed out that with Sudan entering the third year of a devastating conflict, reports continue on sexual violence associated with the conflicting escalation.

She added: “Women and girls were not impartially affected … as men and boys were also exposed to sexual violence, and this is often done in silence and with lack of attention to their needs.”

The Hambrok statement praised the “exceptional courage” of survivors and survivors of violence who break the silence barrier despite fear and stigma, and praised the organizations led by Sudanese women and that provide decisive support under risky conditions.

She said: “Survivors and survivors are asking for violence to support that is based on sympathy, to listen to them without prior rulings, and to take purposeful measures that recognize their suffering and restore their dignity.”
