A historical agreement between Sudan and southern Sudan in the airspace

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The State of South Sudan announced that it is about to receive full control of the national airspace, after obtaining official approval from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in a move described as a qualitative shift towards promoting national sovereignty and achieving operational independence in the aviation sector.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, its first Marco, said in a press statement after a field visit conducted by the Minister of Transport to assess the efficiency of the air traffic management system, that the ministry entered the final stage of understandings with the Republic of Sudan to receive operational and technical tasks related to the air field.

Oleh said that South Sudan will be responsible for managing its air field to a height of 6000 meters, allowing him to monitor air traffic and collect sovereign revenues resulting from the use of the national airspace.

The government official indicated that the ministry has already started training a technical team consisting of 24 employees in China, in preparation for operating the new integrated air traffic management system, which was recently installed by China Harbor Engineering.

Observers considered that the receipt of South Sudan to manage its air field is a pivotal step towards strengthening the infrastructure of civil aviation, increasing national revenues, and expanding employment and training opportunities in the field of aviation.

This step is also expected to improve aviation safety and enhance the confidence of international airlines in the country’s operational environment, which may encourage the expansion of flights and investments in the air transport sector.
