The African Union decides on Sudan

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- Sources within the African Union revealed ongoing arrangements between the UNHCR and the International Development Authority (Idaq), with the participation of United Nations officials, to establish a new mechanism for the Sudanese file, headed by “Idaq”.

This comes at a time when other sources in the African Union indicated, according to Sudan Tribune, that officials from the African Union and “I am” held separate meetings recently with the Special Envoy of the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Ramtan Lamamra, and the African Union Commissioner, Mahmoud Ali Youssef.

The meetings discussed the Sudanese file, including the creation of a joint mechanism between these parties, headed by “Idaad”, and the sources reported that unofficial contacts are taking place between the African Union Commission and the Port Sudan government.

It is expected that the African Union Commissioner will work closely on the file of Sudan, but the sources at the same time were not optimistic that the African Peace and Security Council took a decision to raise the suspension of Sudan’s membership.

Followers indicate that the steps taken by the Sudanese government to appoint a civilian prime minister a few days ago come in the context of a new action plan.

According to sources, a Sudanese official in the African Union is working to prepare an action plan for the army leaders to end the suspension of Sudan’s membership in the organization, amid indicators of great understanding between the Sudanese official and the elected commissioner during the African Summit last February.
