Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The chief democratic of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the American House of Representatives and the prominent deputy, Gregory Mix, said that the continuation of external support for the parties to the conflict in Sudan is a major obstacle to the possibility of reaching a peaceful settlement through negotiation.

He stressed that the UAE did not face any consequences from the administration of President Donald Trump because of its role in fueling the conflict.

Mix said: “The Trump administration informed me last night, its structure, by exceeding the review process in Congress again, and moving forward with a bill of dollars in an arms deal to the UAE.”

He believed that this decision is a flagrant violation of firm norms that extend for decades, and undermines the constitutional role of Congress in overseeing arms deals.

He indicated that he had announced earlier this year that he announced the freezing of major American weapons sales of any country that supports the conflict in Sudan.

He added, “Despite the extensive international condemnation, including from both parties in Congress, reliable evidence still indicates that the UAE continues to provide the rapid support forces with weapons.”

The American Senior Democrats in the American House of Representatives shed light on the attacks launched by the Rapid Support Forces on the city of El Fasher and Zamzam camp for the displaced, last month, which killed hundreds of civilians, including nine relief workers, and the displacement of nearly 400,000 people.

He stressed that the war between the black army and the Rapid Support Forces has claimed the lives of more than 150,000 people since its outbreak in 2023, and resulted in the displacement of about 13 million, while nearly a million people stand on the brink of famine.

He continued, “Despite the ban imposed by the United Nations on the export of weapons to the Darfur region, the UAE weapons and supplies enabled the rapid support forces to carry out brutal attacks against civilians, which contributed to prolonging the war.”

“Despite the UAE allegations that it has stopped its support for the Rapid Support Forces, reliable reports and investigations – inside and outside the United States – clearly indicate this support.”

Mix also criticized the Trump administration’s failure to hold the Emirates accountability, saying: “Under the Trump administration, the UAE has not faced any consequences for continuing to fuel this conflict, which undermines the chances of a political solution and prolongs the suffering of the Sudanese people.”

He stressed that, given the seriousness of the situation in Sudan, it will be presented – in cooperation with a number of members of the Senate – joint decisions to reject the proposed arms deals, and prevent the arrival of American weapons to countries that contribute to committing atrocities and grave violations.
