The United Nations launches a new glimmer of 60,000 people in eastern Sudan

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The United Nations Development Program and the government of Japan launched a new project to enhance food security, provide job opportunities and reach water for 60,000 people in the Red Sea State in eastern Sudan.

The United Nations Development Program and the government of Japan said in a joint statement, according to Sudan Tribune, that they “launch a million dollar project to enhance food security and income for the displaced and host societies in the Red Sea.”

The statement indicated that the project aims to increase crops and new business opportunities and access clean energy and water to 60,000 people.

He explained that the project, funded by the government of Japan, is implemented in partnership with the federal and state ministries and national organizations.

He stated that the project provides training, equipment and loans for farmers and small projects, in addition to short -term job opportunities in solar energy and irrigation projects.

The residing representative of the United Nations program in Sudan, Luka Rainda, said that the new project enables societies to rely on themselves and limits resource -based conflicts.

He explained that the project provides agricultural tools, inputs and training for more than 4 thousand people working in agriculture and fish traps, in addition to providing livestock for reproduction and home consumption for about a thousand displaced people and a family headed by a woman.

He stated that the project provides small grants and lending programs for 720 people, in addition to providing emergency job opportunities for about 2,500 young people in building and rehabilitating the solar energy and water infrastructure.

Funding includes the provision of solar powered irrigation systems and solar -powered street lighting to enhance night safety for girls and women at the sites of the displaced and host societies.
