Daily smuggling trips are organized across multiple tracks to Libya, where smugglers lead thousands of Sudanese in risky roads. Despite the great difficulties and the high costs of these trips, they have been constantly increasing for months as a result of the deterioration of the situation in Sudan.
Moayad, a pseudonym, a young man from the state of White Nile Rayyuan in Sudan, his life was going normally until the situation in his country began to deteriorate due to political tensions and economic and health crises. His family was in urgent need of money, so he looked for work, but he failed because of his young age and his lack of experience.
As the situation exacerbated, a supporter decided to search for opportunities outside his area, so he heard about Egypt as a place that provides better job opportunities. He did not have many options, so he chose immigration to it in search of a better life.
Moayad told Muhajir News: “I arrived in Egypt, where I faced difficult life, long working hours and low wages, in addition to the distance from my family. After a period of suffering, I decided to return to Sudan, but what was not in mind was the outbreak of the war that destroyed the lives of civilians. In the meantime, many Sudanese refugees in Egypt began to face deportation campaigns, so one of my friends suggested to me. Long, I decided to accept the idea. ”
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Kfara City is a major transit point for Sudanese refugees to Libya, where it receives about 350 people daily. The last torrents have caused the destruction of infrastructure, prompting some refugees to resort to schools as temporary shelters.
Ismail Al -Aida, head of the emergency room at the Libyan Ministry of Health, explained to Muhajir News that the numbers of Sudanese displaced people in the city of Kafra have exceeded 65 thousand people in the past six months, with a constant increase, especially with the escalation of fighting in Sudan, whether in the northern states or Darfur. Al -Aida pointed out that most of the displaced are children, women and the elderly, while the number of young people working in the city increases significantly.
Libya hosts more than 60,000 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the High Commissioner for Refugees. The country is also witnessing a complex internal displacement, with about 125,802 internal displaced people. In addition, about 44,000 people have been displaced since September 2023 after hitting the storm Daniel in eastern Libya.
Crises and challenges
On his trip to Libya, a supporter faced many difficulties, as he was smuggled in small cars and was exposed to violence from smugglers. Upon his arrival at the border, he was held in a place called “cell”, then he was transferred to “inhuman” prisons in Libya, where he suffered from beating and hunger and was forced to pay more money to go out, according to Moayad.
Ibrahim Al -Hussein, Director General of the Ambulance and Emergency Agency in Al -Kafra, told Muhajir News that the road between the infidels and the two holes on the Sudanese border witnessed an ambulance of more than 280 cases during the year 2024, most of them are the Sudanese displaced. Most cases were the result of cars in the desert due to excessive speed or sand dunes. Al -Hussein added that they were able to save families lost in the desert, and continued to provide urgent medical services within the city of Kafra, from farms and homes to hospitals.
Moayad said: “When we got to Libya, we discovered that the situation was much more difficult than Egypt. The areas we reached were full of human trafficking, smuggling and contraband.
In an urgent humanitarian move, the United Nations announced the allocation of $ 5.3 million from its central fund to confront emergency, to support 195,000 refugees living in difficult circumstances in Libya, in addition to providing the necessary assistance to their host communities.
Moayad said: “After we were held in a place far from view for long days, as we were waiting for the date of departure, our lives were full of suffering.
Between the waves and the desert
“Women and children are the ones who pay the most expensive price in this crisis. While we continue to see the arrival of empty refugees from unimaginable conditions, we appeal to the international community to stand alongside the Sudanese refugees hosted by the countries of the region generously, and to support the response to their needs,” said Asir Al -Muda’din, Head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee Affairs in Libya.
Ismail Al -Aida emphasized that the situation has become more difficult, which prompted these displaced people, especially young people, to seek to improve their circumstances and secure their future, especially as the war approaches its second year. The situation gets worse in light of the deterioration of basic services such as education, health, shelter and food, as a result of the continuous increase in the number of displaced people day after day.
The bad conditions in Libya prompted a supporter to continue his journey to reach his goal of Europe, he confirmed in a statement to immigrant News, adding: “Then the expected day came. Delwar men carrying weapons entered, took us out of the place while we were in our light clothes, and beat us violently to be directed towards the sea.
Al -Aida added that a shelter center was opened in Libya, which includes 40 beds, in addition to allocating another center to receive the displaced. More than 140,000 health certificates have been issued for people over 18 years of age.
However, Al -Aida pointed out that organizations working in the infidels provided less than 10% of the required support. He explained that most of these pledges were not implemented, while what was presented was insufficient to meet the urgent needs.
Al -Aida pointed out that “the weather in the desert is harsh in the winter, while the bites of scorpions increase in summer.” Despite these difficult circumstances, he stressed that the Ministry of Health, with the support of the Libyan army “will continue to provide assistance to the displaced, despite the increasing numbers and the difficulty of the situation.”
Muayyad said: “Initially, the waves were calm, but soon it started to rise and grow up. We were moving forward, but the waves were bringing us back. Fear began to sneak into our hearts, so some suggested returning, while others insisted on moving forward. But we had no other option. With the rescue, their response was that they could return to Libya, but we decided to move forward in the attempt. ”
According to Al -Aida, Libya is making efforts to support and treat Sudanese refugees, such as Libyan citizens. It seeks to provide health services for refugees that include medical examinations and the issuance of health cards, in light of the lack of refugees of the documentation. But that did not prevent a supporter from following the asylum trip, “We continued to walk day after day, without knowing if we were going. On the third day, a steam saved us with a ship that brought us to Crete, where we were examined and our care. A supporter says.
