Sudan .. Omdurman’s craftsmen are trying to restore hope among the rubble

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- Craftsmen in the city of Omdurman in Sudan returned to their activities after a hiatus of more than two years due to the war, to participate in the reconstruction of the city’s neighborhoods and markets.

Al -Jaili Al -Tom, head of the Industrial Zone Reconstruction Committee, said that several challenges facing craftsmen “due to the destruction of large numbers of workshops by the Rapid Support Forces, despite the army’s success in transporting the equipment of some workshops outside the conflict areas in Khartoum.”

Al -Tom explained to Al -Jazeera that the industrial zone in Karri alone was an activity center for about 60 thousand craftsmen, pointing out that the region and other craftsmen markets in Khartoum were “at the forefront of the sites that were targeted and sabotaged by rapid support.”

Regarding the difficulties facing the work of craftsmen, the spokesman pointed to the lack of electrical supply and the need for financial funds to rehabilitate the workshops and equip them with equipment.

Al -Harfi Awad Al -Karim showed that they live on the daily profits of their workshops and their shops, and that “they do not have savings that can help them in the consequences of the war, so they suffered poverty and hunger.”

In a statement to the island, the Karim went to the island that “the situation has changed significantly, thanks to the return of citizens to Omdurman,” which led to the resumption of markets’ work and the return of workshops for its activity in the craftsmen market.

The market is witnessing a wide activity and demand from citizens, after a “long calm”, according to the craftsman Ibrahim Shanan, saying that the region “was under constant shelling during the war period before the Sudanese army regained full control of the capital,” and Shanan added: “Now everything has returned to its normal situation.”

Omdurman is one of the three cities combined in the Sudanese capital. In March, the army announced the purification of the last rapid support pockets in Khartoum Governorate, after it succeeded in regaining control of Khartoum Airport, security and military headquarters, and several neighborhoods east and south of the capital, for the first time since April 2023 AD.
