Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The parties participating in the consultative meeting in the Norwegian city of Brussels agreed on enhancing the coordination of peace initiatives and efforts on Sudan, on the urgent necessity to move at the highest level to address the ongoing war in Sudan.

The advisory group consists of five major multilateral organizations: the African Union, the European Union, the International Development Authority (Igad), the League of Arab States, and the United Nations, in addition to the member states that are headed by Angola, Djibouti, and Iraq, as well as the countries sponsoring peace initiatives, namely: Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Previous meetings were held in Egypt, Djibouti and Mauritania.

Participants in the advisory group affirmed their commitment to the unity of Sudan, the integrity of its lands and the sovereignty of its people, and they agreed on the need for teamwork and coordinator to silence guns in Sudan, restore the path of civil transition, and urgently deal with the future of the population affected by the war, especially women and youth.

According to the closing statement, the participants discussed during three specific work sessions, ways to reduce escalation, civil and political dialogue, as well as the need to deliver humanitarian aid and respect for international humanitarian law.

The statement added that the cost of inaction in Sudan is not only the exacerbation of the catastrophic humanitarian situation, which is one of the most severe and destructive humanitarian crises in terms of displacement in the world, but that the damage to the affected infrastructure requires a massive collective effort. The war also has severe security and development effects on the entire region and beyond.

Saudi keenness

For its part, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Walid bin Abdul Karim Al -Khuraiji, renewed in his speech during the meeting, the Kingdom’s emphasis on the importance of Sudan’s stability, and the preservation of its security, unity, and the integrity of its lands, and preserving its institutions and capabilities, stressing the importance of this because it represents an extension of regional stability and collective security of Arab and African countries.

He also renewed the Kingdom’s keenness to make all efforts and support common endeavors to stop the war in Sudan, and to reduce external interference that contribute to fueling the conflict and prolonging its term, threatening the unity of Sudan, and creating an incubating environment for terrorist groups.

He noted the Kingdom to continue its good endeavors between the two parties to the conflict, and urged them to resume negotiations through the Jeddah platform, with the aim of reaching a ceasefire agreement, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, and implementing the obligations of both parties to the conflict under the Jeddah Declaration signed on May 11, 2023.

He also renewed the Kingdom’s rejection of any illegal steps or procedures that take place outside the framework of the official institutions of the Republic of Sudan, may affect its unity, and do not express the will of its brotherly people, including calls for the formation of a parallel government.

For his part, the Personal Envoy of the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Ramtan Lamamra, said that the meeting was determined to enhance coordination in support of Sudan’s path towards peace and stability.
