Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- Civil departments in the states of Darfur and Kordofan announced that they are seriously studying the organization of the Sudanese certificate exams in the areas outside the control of the central government, in a move aimed at ensuring the right of students to education and ending the academic exclusion that has been subjected to thousands of students during the past two years.
This approach comes after organizing the Sudanese certificate exams in December and January in the past in the north, central and eastern Sudan, where its conducted on the areas under the control of the army, which sparked widespread controversy that observers considered dedication to geographical polarization and a potential prelude to institutional division.
Tijani Al -Taher Karshoum, head of the state’s civil administration, said that the civil authorities in Darfur and Kordofan have begun to develop preliminary plans to organize the Sudanese certificate exams in its areas, noting that “the deliberate deprivation of students of examinations is a systematic injustice that must be corrected.”
On Saturday, the city of El -Geneina witnessed the start of the primary certificate exams, with the participation of more than 1,700 students, including the children of the displaced and refugees who came from the seam areas and the eastern Chad camps. Karshum considered that the success of this educational merits confirms the ability of Darfur governments to manage the educational process with professionalism and responsibility, despite the security and logistical challenges.
In turn, Abu Bakr Nasser, Director General of the Ministry of Education and Guidance in West Darfur, announced that the ministry has completed administrative and technical preparations for the launch of the intermediate stage exams on July 19, indicating that the primary exams are currently taking place in multiple centers in various localities of the state.
Most of the west areas, south, central and eastern Darfur, are located, along with large parts of North Darfur and West Kordofan, under the control of the Rapid Support Forces since the outbreak of the war in April 2023, causing thousands of students to stop the official study of three consecutive years.
The movements of civil administrations in these states are seen as an attempt to reintegrate marginalized societies into the national educational system, at a time when official state institutions continue to work from the temporary capital Port Sudan, which devotes a complex reality of administrative and political division in the country.
Educational and human rights activists demand urgent and comprehensive treatment of the imbalance in the distribution of educational opportunities, and to ensure the right of students to perform national exams, regardless of geographical divisions or political loyalties, considering that education is an unconstitutional constitutional right.
