Director of the International Energy Agency will surprise the Egyptians with an order that will change the game in the region

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Ghusi, surprised the Egyptians with a post through his official account on the “X” platform from the Dabaa nuclear plant after his meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

In a post, Grussia expressed his honor to meet President Sisi, stressing “the full agency’s support for the Dabaa nuclear plant project,” considering that the Dabaa station “will change the rules of the game” as Egypt has become a country that relies on nuclear energy.

The Director General of the International Agency described the project as a “historic achievement” that will contribute to promoting energy sustainability in Egypt, praising the active Egyptian role and “its firm commitment and its support for the efforts of nuclear disarmament and the prevention of spreading.”

Earlier, President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi received today the Director General of the agency Rafael Grossi in Cairo in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel -Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Major General Hassan Rashad, head of the General Intelligence.

During the meeting, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s appreciation to the agency’s role in supporting the system of non -nuclear spread and disarmament, stressing Egypt’s historical commitment to these goals to enhance international peace and security.

He pointed to Egypt’s keenness to maximize the benefit of the peaceful uses of atomic energy, with a focus on the project of the Dabaa station as a basic pillar to meet Egypt’s increasing energy needs, and Sisi also emphasized Egypt’s support for the establishment of a nuclear weapons -free area in the Middle East, calling on the agency to enhance its role in achieving this goal.

The Dabaa nuclear plant on the northwestern coast of Egypt is a strategic project aimed at meeting the increasing demand for energy in the country, which is witnessing an accelerated population and economic growth.

The project, which is implemented by the Russian company “Rosatom”, at an estimated cost of 30 billion dollars, included the creation of 4 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts, which covers about 10% of Egypt’s electricity needs by completing it.

The construction work began at the station in 2022, and reports indicate great progress, as Alexei Lechachov, Rosatom director, in April 2025, confirmed that the project is the “largest nuclear construction project on the planet” in terms of geographical area, and it is advanced according to the time plan.
