(1540) Deaths in just three days .. The repercussions of the disaster

Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The preliminary committee of the Sudan Doctors Syndicate revealed that the number of dates in cholera increased to 1540 deaths in the state of Khartoum within three days, amid the lack of medical services.

A spokesman for the preliminary committee of the Sudan Doctors Syndicate, Sayed Mohamed Abdullah, told “Sudan Tribune” that the number of deaths in cholera in Omdurman and Khartoum increased 1540 cases within three days.

He stated that the cases of cholera in Nyala, South Darfur state, reported 91, including 10 deaths, while there are 26 cases in the insulation center.

He added, “Today, the committee monitored the recording of 100 cholera injuries, including 15 deaths in Al -Rahad Hospital, North Kordofan, along with the increasing cases in the areas of El Fasher and Kassab camp for the displaced, in addition to the widening cases in Al -Dahin in East Darfur and Genena, West Darfur.”

In the same context, the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, assigned to Esmat Mustafa, announced on Friday that 2,905,400 doses of cholera vaccine, as part of the efforts to confront the epidemic that Sudan in particular in Khartoum and Al -Rahad locality in North Kordofan state.

The Undersecretary of Health explained in a press circular that the vaccine is a grant provided by the International Coordination Group for the cholera vaccine (ICG) with the support of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) through an integrated technical effort from the Federal Technical Committee to address the cholera epidemic, under the direct supervision of the Federal Minister of Health.

He stressed the completion of all logistical arrangements for the deportation of vaccine shipments to the state of Khartoum and expected the implementation of an expanded vaccination campaign in the coming days, targeting all citizens from the age of a year and over.
