Follow-up- Al-Zawiya Net- The security authorities in the city of Port Sudan carried out a massive campaign of arrests that affected hundreds of civilians, against the backdrop of accusations of cooperation and intelligence with the Rapid Support Militia, according to local sources and eyewitnesses.

The arrests campaign came in the wake of attacks via the drones that had been exposed to the city of Port Sudan and targeted strategic locations in the first week of May.

A relative of the detainee Mohamed Ibrahim (28 years old) said that the latter was arrested from the city market by the joint security cell on May 9, on charges of communicating with the Rapid Support Forces.

He added that the detainee was transferred to the National Prison of Port Sudan a week after his arrest, without being allowed to communicate with his family, despite the legal pressures exerted by his lawyer.

The joint security cell, which includes the police, the General Intelligence Service, the Military Police and Intelligence, announced in a press summary seen by “Darfur 24” that it had arrested about 2,500 people since the beginning of this month, which was released 1470 of them after the investigation, including 234 minors released with personal pledges, while 16 people are still under investigation and converting others to the military police on charges of impersonating the military.

For her part, lawyer Rehab Mubarak, a member of the “Emergency Lawyers”, confirmed to “Darfur 24” that there are about 1,600 detainees in the National Prison of Port Sudan living in deteriorating humanitarian conditions, due to the power cut and the stopping of the desalination plant inside the prison, which threatens the emergence of health problems, including kidney disease, in addition to the delay in diets.

Mubarak warned of the security danger that threatens the detainees, due to the proximity of the prison from targeted military sites, noting that there are a large number of detainees from various professional groups, including journalists, doctors, teachers and engineers, in addition to members of political parties.

She indicated that more than 250 detainees face charges of cooperation and intelligence with rapid support, under Articles “50-51” of the Criminal Code.
